At 4:00 p.m. on May 12, 2025, the symposium on “Industry University Research Cooperation between Hungary and China” was held at Mathias Corvinus College (MCC) in Hungary. The symposium discussed the current situation and future of cooperation between universities and industries. Mr. Geng Jian, the industry director of the “the Belt and Road” project of Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University, was invited to attend as a dialogue guest.

This seminar brought together several important leaders and scholars from the education and industry sectors, including Ms. Ren á ta Van ó, Deputy Minister of Higher Education at the Hungarian Ministry of Education, Professor J á nos Set é nyi, Dean of MCC Education Institute, Senior Professor at MCC, G á bor Hal á sz, Senior Professor of Industry Education Integration at Roland University, Professor Kov á cs Levente, President of Ó buda University, and Ms. Ma Junkai, Executive Director of Vikle Business School.
In the seminar, the attending guests exchanged ideas on the following topics: the history and experience of cooperation between universities and the economic field; The significance of this cooperation for institutional development; The main difficulties and challenges facing current cooperation; And whether Hungary may learn from the Chinese model in the future to promote deeper integration between schools and enterprises.
Ms. Ren á ta Van ó, Deputy Minister of Higher Education at the Hungarian Ministry of Education, discussed from the government’s perspective that deepening cooperation between universities and enterprises can not only promote economic development, but also improve the overall quality of education, which is the key to building an innovative society.
Dean Geng Jian proposed the concept of “jointly building a Sino Hungarian education ecological platform” based on the long-term exploration experience of Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University in international education cooperation. As one of the first Sino foreign cooperative universities in China, Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University has always been committed to creating a higher education model with an international perspective, local practice, and cutting-edge orientation. During this process, the school continuously promoted the concept of “industry university research, government and society”, advocating for bridging the boundaries between education, research, industry, government and society, and building an interdisciplinary, cross institutional, and cross-border open education ecosystem, which received positive responses from the attending guests.

Professor J á nos Set é nyi pointed out that universities are not only places for knowledge dissemination, but also driving forces for innovation and social development. He emphasized that universities need to actively integrate into the economy and society, providing students with more opportunities to interact with businesses.
Professor G á bor Hal á sz shared his rich experience in promoting the integration of industry and education, and pointed out that effective school enterprise cooperation can not only improve students’ practical abilities, but also promote the commercialization of innovative achievements.

President Kovács Levente stated that Ó buda University has always been committed to cultivating versatile talents with innovative spirit and practical ability, and actively exploring cooperation models with enterprises in scientific research, internships, entrepreneurship, and other areas.

Ms. Ma Junkai, as the Executive Director of the Vikler Business School, shared her unique insights on the integration of industry and education between China and Hungary. She said, “Vikler Business School has always been committed to becoming a bridge between Chinese and Hungarian universities and enterprises. We not only focus on cultivating high-quality talents with international perspectives, but also actively promote in-depth cooperation between multinational enterprises and vocational education institutions in the field of industry university research, providing enterprises with talents that better meet industry needs, while creating broader development opportunities for students
This forum not only strengthened mutual understanding between China and Europe in the fields of education and industry integration, but also laid a solid foundation for closer cooperation in the future. The attendees unanimously agreed that in the context of global economic integration, the integration of industry and education has become one of the important strategic directions for the development of universities.

Based on the exchange results of this seminar, the CEEC Center for the “the Belt and Road Initiative” of XJTLU will further deepen cooperation with all sectors of Hungary, give full play to the comprehensive advantages of the Center in education, innovation and international docking, continue to promote the development model of “industry, education, research, politics and society”, and contribute more to exploring the international development path and innovation cooperation of Chinese universities.
